H. Adrian W. Cummins, Q.C

Dr. H. Adrian W. Cummins joined the Firm in October of 1985 as an Associate Attorney-at-Law with responsibility for Litigation, after having successfully completed his Certificate in Legal Education at the Hugh Wooding Law School in 1985. He became a Partner of the Firm in 1998 with responsibility for the Litigation and Advisory Departments of the Firm, and was called to the Inner Bar in June 2005.

He holds a Second Class Honours degree in Law (LL.B.) awarded in 1983 by the University of the West Indies, and a Masters of Law degree (LL.M.) from the same institution in International Maritime and Aviation Law awarded in 1993. His Master’s thesis, The Development of an Admiralty Jurisdiction in respect of Arrest of Ships (with special reference to Barbados) [1993], is regarded as a serious contribution to the legal literature of the region. In addition to the many companies and agencies that he has acted for during the thirty years of professional practice, he has also cultivated an experience in public sector law, having acted for several agencies of Government and quasi-governmental organisations.

Dr. Cummins has acted for the Government of Barbados in the matter of the Arbitration Proceedings involving the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. He has also in the past taught International Law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and is an External Examiner and Supervisor for the postgraduate thesis in the Commercial and Corporate Law Masters (LL.M.) Programme at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. On October 28, 2006, Dr. Cummins was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in Law by the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. His doctoral thesis was in the area of Employment Law and Human Rights, and dealt with discrimination and health and safety in the workplace in respect of HIV/AIDS seropositive employees. Dr. Cummins has also acted as a Judge of the High Court.
